I’m happy to announce that Art Plunge is now free on Steam! Making it available as a free app was what we initially intended when we started our kickstarter back in 2016. I want to thank everyone who has purchased our app and/or taken the time to give us feedback or reviews!
Over the last 5 years, I’ve tried to juggle the Art Plunge Project as a side hustle, through the company Space Plunge (co-founded by me and my collaborator Martin Christensen). During 2022, a lot of my time went into the project, working on a bunch of new paintings together with Jacob Romare, a 3D graphics student who choose to do his internship with us. We then hired him for a while, which burned through most of the savings from app sales and porting fees. (Personally, I have not drawn salary from Space Plunge.) After this I felt a bit burnt out myself and needed to take a break from the project.
I am currently reworking the software in order to be able to create Art Plunge experiences without using the Unity Editor. The goal is that a future version of the Art Plunge Steam app can be used together with Blender and Krita for creation. I’m also documenting the workflow. If you are interested in this kind of creation and are willing to beta test let me know!
After that the plan is to finish and release the new paintings one at a time (free updates/downloads). Initially only on Steam. I understand this is disappointing for many of you, but I feel we’ve tried the paywall method for long enough to try to fund development and it’s time to let it go as it was never a preference for us anyway.
I will continue working on this project, according to my situation. If you’re interested in supporting, let me know what would be best option for you:
